In the aftermath of the cancellation of the British QX Championship round at Wrangway last weekend, you might have expected a few heated arguments and pointing of fingers. But no. An eerie calm pervades, with all parties trying terribly hard to be diplomatic. How very nice. How very grown up. How very odd...
If you missed the news, the quad races were cancelled after one practice session, when the club officials decided that the dust thrown up by the quads made racing too dangerous and the vast majority of championship riders agreed and voted not to race. And you can't argue with that. Safety has to come first.
However, a lot of riders, teams and supporters spent a stack of time and money to get to the only round of the series not being run by a quad club and mixed with other two and three wheel championships and being run at a track which some had expressed some reservations about beforehand. Indeed, all the ingredients and excuses for a good old verbal punch up and the blame to be spread. But nothing...
The ACU has called a meeting of the Quad Sub-committee next week, not only to discuss proposals for a replacement round, but inviting “interested parties to send any comments regarding the quad championships.” The 2011 championships will also be discussed at this meeting.
